David Wilkes Builders won in the NARI category for remodels over $1 million for this home renovation that included an addition, a pool and new decks; and David and Catherine Wilkes take a break from a recent building project in Austin.
West Lake Hills-based David Wilkes Builders, a company specializing in high-end remodeling, recently won seven Contractor of the Year awards from the Austin chapter of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry.
The firm won in seven categories in a range of prices for two bathrooms, a kitchen, two additions and a whole house remodel.
“The awards are fun because they validate what you already know about your product,” said Catherine Wilkes, one half of the husband-and-wife team that runs Wilkes Builders. “With the [National Association of the Remodeling Industry], it’s a nice peer evaluation of your work.”
The Wilkes, the driving force behind David Wilkes Builders, moved their operation to West Lake Hills four years ago after they split from Trinity Builders after 18 years. The pair makes a formidable duo. He’s a credentialed builder with 25 years experience, and she is a business mind with training in green building. About 98 percent of their work is in residential remodeling, and they tackle projects of any size – from 10,000-square-feet whole house remodels in six weeks to small overhauls.
“We don’t like to turn away small stuff,” said David Wilkes. “You never know, they might be doing a bathroom now and later they might be doing a whole house remodel. Our goal is to keep our clients happy and become their builder for as long as they live in Austin. I’d say, for the most part, it’s worked out.”
David Wilkes Builders is a small operation with less than a dozen employees and focuses on fitting projects to clients. Building is handled in-house, but the company works with architects and interior designers to create a one-stop shop for clients that need it.
“We do it all, and our clients appreciate that,” David Wilkes said.

Congratulations to two deserving, brilliant, hard-working (and good looking) people. I am so proud of you both. Much Success!
