Easter Seals Central Texas played its best hand at the annual gala “A Show of Hands!” Casino Royale. More than 300 partygoers attended the festive fundraiser at the Barton Creek Resort & Spa.
Well-dressed supporters mingled during a cocktail reception while bidding on impressive items in the silent auction. The Austin Community College Jazz Ensemble provided entertainment with big band music under the direction of Dr. Tom Husak.
KXAN-TV news anchor Robert Hadlock emceed the evening. Event co-chairs Sarah Barnes and Jim Hemphill were special guest speakers. Parents Becky and Dale Clowers spoke on behalf of their 4-year-old son, Wesley, who is the 2010 child ambassador. David Kennedy is the 2010 adult ambassador.
Auctioneer Victoria Gutierrez led the spirited live auction with spotting assistance by the University of Texas Wranglers and Darlings. The largest packages were luxury accommodations for two in the heart of Paris, a private resort stay for eight in exotic Bali and a western Caribbean cruise for two lucky winners.
The fund-a-need campaign raised an unprecedented $10,400 to pay for a critical piece of audiology equipment – the AudioScan RM500SL, a real ear/hearing aid analyzer. The portable device measures the amount of sound from the hearing aid to the eardrum.
Diners were treated to romaine salad, pork tenderloin, potato risotto and white chocolate truffle torte. Casino games of black jack, craps, roulette and Texas Hold ’Em finished out the sociable night.
“The people who come to our gala are very generous and understand the mission of Easter Seals,” said Kevin T. Coleman, president and chief executive officer. “They come with the intention of supporting the programs that serve people with disabilities in Central Texas.”
Proceeds generated approximately $100,000. Funds go directly to improving the quality of life for children and adults with disabilities. Since 1937, Easter Seals Central Texas has provided exceptional services so people with disabilities and their families can fully participate in their communities.
