Westlake boys golf coach Callan Nokes has been selected to coach Team Texas in the 2011 Texas-Mexico Cup to be played in late June 2011. The annual matches pit a team of all-stars from Texas versus the Mexican National Team in Ryder Cup-style matches. Mexico has won the last two years. The matches were played at Barton Creek Country Club in 2010, but the 2011 sites have yet to be determined. Nokes will be in charge of compiling a team and coaching both the boys and girls teams in the three-day matches.

A former golf professional, Nokes has won two state championships in his seven years as Westlake’s head golf coach. His team opened the 2010-11 season Wednesday against Lake Travis in the first round of the schools’ annual Ryder Cup-style matches. The two teams will meet again Tuesday at Austin Country Club.
