Hill Country Middle School Library, along with Book People and other school and public libraries, will be hosting the second annual Austin Teen Book Festival at Westlake High School from 10 a.m.-5 p.m Oct. 2.
Fifteen young adult authors from around the country will be presenting to middle and high school students at this free event.
Participating authors include: Ellen Hopkins (keynote speaker), James Dashner, Pam Bachorz, S.A. Bodeen, Alexandra Adornetto, Sophie Jordan, Kiersten White, Melissa de la Cruz, Catherine Jinks, Kenneth Oppel, Ally Carter, Nancy Werlin, Susane Colasanti, Jon Skovron and Charles Benoit.
ATBF’s mission is to foster a community effort to celebrate and promote reading by connecting teens to local and award-winning authors, whose writing spans across genres and interest levels. Teens will be able to meet their favorite and soon-to-be favorite authors. Books will be available for purchase, and participants will have the opportunity to get them signed by the authors. Local teen bands will perform throughout the day and concessions will be sold.

The Eanes school board will hold its regularly scheduled monthly meeting Sept. 29, at 7:30 p.m. at district administration building, 601 Camp Craft Road.
Parents of children in kindergarten through sixth grades can sign up anytime for the Westlake High School Cheerleader’s Annual Spirit Clinic anytime leading up to the event on Saturday from 1-4:30 p.m. at WHS.
Participants will learn cheers, stunts and dances. There will be a snack, crafts and photographs taken by Nimai Malle. Those cheer athletes who attend the clinic are invited to join the WHS Cheer Squad on the football field at the first Chaparral home game against Pflugerville on Sept. 17.

The Spirit Clinic fee is $60 per athlete and includes a T-shirt.
The Westlake Rotary Club meets Friday at 7:30 a.m. at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 5455 Bee Cave Road. Cost is $5 or $15 for a full meal.
The Westlake High School Hyline Dance Team welcomes dancers in grades kindergarten through 12th to join them for their annual Dance Clinic and Jazz Intensive fundraiser Sept. 18 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
The clinic, for grades kindergarten-fifth, will include dance technique, jazz, novelty, lyrical or hip hop routines. This group will have the unique opportunity of performing on the field with Hyline at the Westlake vs. Pflugerville football game on Sept. 24 at WHS and will also sit in the stands with Hyline for the first quarter of the game.
The Jazz Intensive Workshop for grades sixth-12th, will focus on technique, style and cutting- edge combinations. It will be taught by the talented Hyline officers. All participants will showcase their newly learned routines for parents and friends at the conclusion of the clinics.
Both clinics will be held in the WHS Physical Education Gym near the Camp Craft Road school entrance.
Pre-registration is preferred by Monday, but participants may register at the door at 8:30 a.m. for an additional $5.

West Lake Hills resident and Blue Whale Moving Company owner Brad Armstrong recently launched another Austin-based business, Humpback Junk Removal.
The provide services to remove junk, unwanted household items and general trash items too large or bulky for the typical garbage and trash service.
Armstrong said Humpback Junk Removal will be a stand-alone, companion-service company that will follow the same business principals that made the moving company successful for 22 years by providing professional hauling services. He said customer requests to haul off items after or prior to moves prompted him to form the new service company.
