An early-morning crash on Westlake Drive has claimed the life of one person, a Texas Department of Public Safety official said this morning.

Emergency crews responded to 2000 Westlake Drive, near the intersection of Mount Larson Road, at about 3:30 a.m. Wednesday morning.

DPS officials have identified the person who died as Sharad Sood, 27, of Austin.

According to an accident report, Sood was headed west on Westlake Drive shortly after 3 a.m. when his 2003 Chevy Tahoe left the road, hit several trees and caught fire. There were no passengers in the vehicle and no other cars were involved in the accident.

Sood died at the scene, and DPS officials said it is not clear if he was wearing a seatbelt.

Portions of the road were closed for several hours while the wreck was investigated. The scene was cleared shortly after 8 a.m.

    That’s really sad. I was driving home from work on Westlake Dr in just about the same area one hour before this crash. I guess this is a reminder to everyone to be careful, and please… slow down on Westlake Drive. The constant tailgating and speeding is really not going to get you where you’re going any faster.
