At the bottom of this pages is a new feature, Hot off the Web, that is designed to bring to light many good points being made on our online version of the newspaper, westlakepicayune.com. Although the Picayune’s online comments can be so inflammatory that they come precariously close to violating our policy against name calling and profanity, few can deny that the passion-filled dialogue can be a compelling read. This newspaper is fortunate to have so many readers who enjoy making their voices heard on key topics of interest. Although some readers have complained about the often venomous nature of some of our online bloggers, it should be noted that many points would likely go unsaid without the option of remaining anonymous.
Discourse featured on this page and online will likely heat up with each week that passes, leading up to Nov. 2. That is the date when voters will decide both the Eanes school district’s bond election and Rollingwood’s election to determine the future fate of sales-tax revenue originally designated exclusively for parks and community-related projects.
Another key issue on the horizon that will likely be a hot topic for discussion in the coming months is how the cities of Rollingwood and West Lake Hills will deal with what officials in both communities feel are unfair wastewater rates being assessed by the Lower Colorado River Authority. The LCRA financed, built and now operates systems for the cities.
We hope readers will utilize our opinion page and website to make compelling points on any key issue facing the community. We also hope it will be done in a civil manner because it’s much easier to be good neighbors than bad ones.
