It’s into the techno world for Eanes school district elementary school students. Families will be able to view class assignments on the Internet beginning Aug. 18 after 4 p.m.

To comply with federal privacy laws aimed at keeping individual students safe, class lists will no longer be posted on campus windows. Parents can instead log on to the district’s Skyward program to find out who gets whom for the 2010-11 school year.

“It’s a more convenient process for almost all of our parents,” said Bill Bechtol, district head of curriculum and instruction. “Our elementary principals work real hard to keep class lists balanced. This allows us to make last minute changes to classes.”

All families who register students with the district are assigned a Skyward account after filling out a Family Access application. The district e-mails user name and passwords to registered families so that they can check their class assignments before the first day of school. After school starts, parents can keep track of student progress and grades, attendance and even lunch account balances through the Skyward site.

The vast majority of parents in the district have home computers, but those who don’t can use free computers at the local Westbank libraries, Bechtol said. For families without home computer access or e-mail, the district will hand out access information in person.
