The Westlake High School Hyline Dance Team recently initiated 17 new members at the annual “First Course” ceremony and inducted new team officers and board members who will lead the team for the 2010-11 school year.

New initiates include Annie Arendes, Frances Bates, Niki Bordelon, Shannon Breeland, Jacqueline Brustkern, Helen Heston, Claire Hoelscher, Stephanie Hoyer, Amanda Hunt, Megan Kelly, Lauren Laube, Kia Race, Susan Rhodes, Maggie Rogers, Maddie Settle, Claire Smith and Leah Weidmann. Captain Madelyn Wilson, first lieutenant Devon Defoyd and second lieutenants McKenzie Clark, Sheridan McDowell, Emily Snouffer, Kyndra Steeg and Meredith Trank will attend dance team officer camp in Dallas in early June.

Hyline board members for the new school year are Emily Poston, president; Annie Berryhill, vice president; Haley Karstens, public relations; Claire Patterson, secretary; Janey Umstattd, spirit director; and Lucy Welch, historian.

Hyline will conduct its annual Dance Clinic fundraiser for aspiring dancers grades K-5, as well as a Jazz Intensive Workshop for dancers sixth through ninth grade, on Saturday, Sept. 18 from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. in the PE Gym.

The younger, Dance Clinic dancers will have the unique opportunity of performing at the WHS vs. New Braunfels game on Sept. 24 at Chaparral Stadium.
