For the first time in eight years, Westlake High School will hold a holiday boys basketball tournament – and the Chaps’ renewed role as hosts comes with plenty of star power.

Defending Class 4A champion Houston Yates headlines the eight-team tournament. Yates drew high national rankings last season, along with plenty of national attention for a series of lopsided wins.

Defending Class 5A champion Fort Bend Bush will also join the field, along with A&M Consolidated, Coppell, Duncanville and local power Pflugerville. According to Westlake coach Tres Ellis, the tournament should offer an exciting environment for hoops fans.

“We wanted to bring the state’s best teams to Austin and take advantage of our central location and the quality basketball facilities we have here at Westlake,” Ellis said.

The tournament will run from Dec. 27 -29.
