It didn’t take long for the Chaps to show their determination to secure the District 25-5A title.
Centerfielder Collin Shaw opened Friday’s contest against Austin High with a home run as the Chaps rolled to a 17-0 five-inning win at Burger Center. The victory gave Westlake (21-9-1 overall, 11-2 in district) its fifth consecutive district title.
The Chaps close out the regular season Friday against visiting Akins.
Fueled by 11 hits and three fielding errors from the Maroons, Westlake batted around in both the second and fourth innings. Triples by Lewis Guilbeau and Chris Watkins highlighted the offense.
Watkins (9-0) remained unbeaten on the mound while allowing one hit in the five innings.
Austin High (14-15 overall) fell to 7-6 in district play and remains a game ahead of Connally for the fourth and final playoff spot.
