Westlake capped its District 25-5A campaign with a 6-2 win over Akins Saturday at Burger Stadium.

The Chaps (14-6-2 overall, 12-2 in district) clinched the 25-5A crown with a win over Anderson last week but didn’t show any letdown on the offensive end. The Chaps began their scoring onslaught when Thomas Haws found Dillon Short, who finished with a hard shot in the upper corner of the net.

The scoring onslaught continued with a header from Walker Hume off a corner kick from Bailey Hinners later in the half. Tucker Hume, Jordan Price, Mark Kasahara and Ryder McGough all added second-half goals

Buckley Willis recorded several stellar saves while complementing a stout defensive effort.

Girls blast Akins in finale

Westlake’s girls closed out their regular season with a 10-0 romp over struggling Akins Friday at Burger Center. The win lifted the Chaps to 15-6-2 overall and 12-2 in District 25-5A, which tied Westlake with Bowie for the district title.

Because the Chaps beat Bowie in both meetings, they will enter Tuesday’s playoff opener as the district’s top seed.

Caroline Furst, Reilly Wheat and Rachel Quigley each scored two goals. Sarah Gross, Westlake’s regular goalie, added a score while receiving minutes up top.

Alexandra Perez had two assists from Westlake’s midfield.
