Austin saw its fourth traffic fatality this year when a 52-year-old man died in a one-car accident at the intersection of MoPac and Loop 360 early morning.

“A preliminary investigation shows that a purple Chevrolet 2-door vehicle lost control while taking the corner and struck the concrete retaining wall,” Police said in a press release this week. The vehicle rolled over and the driver was ejected. The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene.”

Police have not released the name of the deceased, pending notification of family.

The crash occurred on the south exit ramp from southbound MoPac onto southbound Loop 360 at 12:52 a.m. Feb. 22.

“Alcohol and speed appear to be contributing factors in this crash,” police say. “The driver was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.”

The case is still under investigation, and investigators are asking anyone with information regarding the accident to call the Austin Police Department Vehicular Homicide Unit Detectives at 974-8212.
