Westlake took another resounding step toward its first district title in six years with a 93-72 win at Akins Tuesday.
Led by point guard Cody Doolin, the No. 7 Chaps (27-4 overall, 12-0 in District 25-5A) exploded for 58 points in the first half. Playoff-bound Akins, which trailed by 29 points at the break, never recovered while falling to 23-7 overall and 7-5 in district.
Doolin had 30 points, and forward Carl Meyertons added 20 points for the Chaps. Gus Leeper and Conner Kemper added 14 and 12 points, respectively.
The Chaps lead Bowie by two games with two games left on the district schedule. However, Westlake has to survive a rugged final stretch if it hopes to regain the 25-5A crown. The Chaps visit Bowie tomorrow at 8:15 p.m. and close the regular season against playoff-qualifying Pflugerville Tuesday.
Bowie finishes its 25-5A schedule at struggling Anderson.
