Westlake senior Charlie Copa has committed to play football at Syracuse University, becoming the sixth Chap football player to sign up for college football. The 6-foot-5-inch, 245-pound tight end caught 13 catches for 206 yards and two touchdowns for Westlake, which reached the Class 5A Division I title game.
Copa will join linebackers Bryce Hager (Baylor) and Ellis Glaw (Dartmouth), quarterback Tanner Price (Wake Forest), kicker Cody Rademacher (Air Force) and defensive back Louie Swope (SMU) at tomorrow’s Signing Day festivities at Westlake High School.

Hot diggity dog Charlie—CONGRATULATIONS to you and all of the Chaps!!
Hmmm, something about the previous comment makes me think of hotdogs and weiner dogs and old comments made against our students who participated in many different varsity sports. However, I will agree with continued congratulations to Charlie Copa and all the athletes who are going on to play their respective sports in college! I understand we are very well represented throughout the U.S. in many top notch colleges and universities. Congratulations WHS senior athletes!!!
To Westlake mom: Rex the Dog et. al hopefully lost his bite. Congratulations to Charlie Copa and to the Chaps athletes in all sports! They make us very proud.
Do the signing day festivities involve other sports as well? If not, when are the other events scheduled? I know little about how this is handled and am wondering about it.
Signing day is for all sports, and there are several of them throughout the year.
Westlake Mom, sorry to say you have the wrong guy, but if I run into Rex I’ll give him your regards. In the future you may want to stay on subject—Congratulations Charlie for a terrific accomplishment.
I think Westlake mom was just reminded of Rex. Everyone is congratulating the athletes and interested in the subject of our athletes signing today. I appreciate the information on the signing days. Thanks!
Hey Jack, You don’t get to decide what’s “on subject” or not. If you want to moderate, open up your own forum.
Looks like his new home is in the Carrier Dome.
Here’s to hoping that Charlie finds the fans of Syracuse with a little more class than the nameless few on this blog—Congratulations again Charlie.
The comments seem fine.
