Westlake High School is ranked among the nation’s top high schools, according to the U.S. News and World Report. WHS was honored as a Silver Medal recipient by the publication.
A total of 21,786 public high schools in the nation were analyzed in the study, which developed a ranking methodology with three numeric values: college readiness index, poverty-adjusted performance index, and disadvantaged students performance gap.
Only schools with values greater than 20 in their college readiness index scored high enough to meet the criterion for gold and silver medal selection. The top 100 high schools nationwide with the highest college readiness index scores were awarded gold medals. The next 461 top-performing high schools nationwide – based on their college readiness index scores – earned silver medals. Westlake is one of three Central Texas high schools to be recognized.
Earlier this year, Westlake High School was designated as the 72nd top high school in the country by Newsweek magazine.

Silver is great, but we should be goin’ for the gold. Highland Park in Dallas and nine other Texas schools made up the 100 in the nation who were awarded the gold. Congrats to Lake Travis and Westwood for also winning the silver!
