Saturday’s state championship football game between Westlake and Euless Trinity will extend from San Antonio’s Alamodome in a pair of city halls.
West Lake Hills mayor Dave Claunch issued a challenge that has been accepted by Euless mayor Mary Lib Saleh regarding the outcome of the Class 5A Division I championship football game between the Chaps and the Trojans.
The mayors have agreed to a friendly wager: the losing team’s mayor will wear a sports jersey from the winning team at his or her’s next city council meeting. The winning team’s mayor will provide the jersey for free, and the losing team’s mayor will provide a photo of him or herself wearing the jersey at the dais during the Council meeting.
In his letter issuing the challenge to his colleague, Claunch said in a press release, “I feel it is my duty to warn you that you will almost certainly lose this wager, should you choose to accept it. As you probably know, The Mighty and Powerful Westlake High School Chaparrals are a fierce and intimidating team, known throughout the Great State of Texas as possessing superior skills and talent. They are certain to prevail!”
In response, Mayor Saleh stated in a press release, “Your Chaparrals may be known throughout the Great State of Texas; however, I am sure you have read about our Trinity Trojans in the Wall Street Journal, and The New York Times as well as many other national publications. We do not like to brag, but you should know what you are up against.”
Euless is a suburb of Fort Worth located near Dallas-Fort Worth Airport.
