One of the more overlooked aspects of special teams played a pivotal role in the Chaps’ win over Cinco Ranch.

Westlake quarterback Tanner Price averaged 36.2 yards on four quick-kicks, including a timely 49-yard punt that bounced out of bounds at Cinco Ranch’s 5-yard line with 3 minutes, 33 seconds left in the game. The boot left the Cougars facing a 95-yard drive that could have tied the game.

In comparison, Cinco Ranch’s Zach Velliquette averaged just 30 yards on five punts while filling in for the injured James Radcliffe.

News and notes

I just have a feeling, this will be Westlake’s #2 title. Trinity can’t win two games with the pass in a row. Westlake will force the pass and will make enough TOs to win the game. Trinity’s defense isn’t super, just good to ok. They tended to stack inside vs STP and gave away the outside, until STP started mixing it some criss crosses and kept hitting the short passes. Westlake and STPs offenses are identical, save for the fact that Westlake will throw deep far more than STP. Look out for the QB, Willie hubbard, 316, I think he is the true offensive star for Trinity this year. He is a playmaker, running or passing.

D-TRAIN, I share the feeling, but my confidence, as in 1996, is back and forth. I hope the Chaps come to play, play hard, and play well. Beyond that, it will be a Merry Christmas whatever happpens.
