Westlake’s boys basketball team reached Saturday’s championship game at the Texas Invitational in Pasadena before falling to Houston Bellaire 50-47.
The Chaps defeated Humble 62-38 and West Monroe, La., 54-47 to reach top Gold bracket, where they topped Fort Bend Marshall 84-74.
After Westlake beat North Crowley 70-65 in the semifinals, the Chaps suffered a taut 50-47 loss to a Bellaire team that included 6-5 Texas recruit Sheldon McClellan and 6-9 Baylor commit Tobi Oyedeji.
Doolin, who earned a spot on the all-tournament team, had 16 points and eight assists in the contest. Kemper scored a team-high 17 points and knocked down a quartet of three-pointers.
The prestigious tournament included nine of the 20 state-ranked teams by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches.
