West Lake Hills-based Wonders & Worries, the only organization in the country dedicated to helping children cope when a parent has a serious illness like cancer, will pull the trigger on the second annual Beretta USA No Worries Classic clay shoot at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Cypress Hill Preserve in Liberty Hill, Texas.

Last year’s inaugural event was the largest charity clay shoot without an auction ever, and this year they are on track to do the same.

Shooting teams are currently soliciting pledges for every sporting clay they hit. The individual who raises the most money will win a Beretta Silver Pigeon O/U Shotgun. Each member of the team that raises the combined highest amount of money will take home a Beretta Teknys Gold automatic shotgun. Last year’s top money raiser, Scott Lawler, raised more than $9,700, and his Los Tiborones team raised more than $23,000.

All proceeds from the event will help Wonders & Worries provide free professional services to children who have a parent with serious illnesses.

“I felt helpless when I received news of my cancer’s return,” said Michelle Bynum, a Wonders & Worries client and Beretta USA No Worries Classic volunteer. “Concerns over my son’s emotional and mental well-being trumped the focus on my treatment and fight back to health. But Wonders & Worries has been an invaluable source of strength for him and our entire family, allowing me to mentally and physically battle cancer more effectively.”

Children who see a parent lose hair from chemotherapy or do not understand why Mommy or Daddy is too tired to play with them often worry about why this happening or whether it will happen to them too. Wonders & Worries provides the kind of support and education children need in these difficult situations.

Wonders & Worries board member Mike Reynolds came up with the idea for the Beretta USA No Worries Classic while sitting at charity fundraiser for another organization.

“I knew there had to be a more fun way for people to support a great cause,” Reynolds said. “This unique format will help support the Wonders & Worries goal to expand its services across Texas and eventually, nationwide.”

This year the event is excited to have ESPN “Wild & Raw” television star Scott Robertson. Also, slated to shoot are stars from the television show “Friday Night Lights,” Brad Leland, Taylor Klitch and Jesse Plemmons. Look out for returning local celebrity shooters from last year, Amy Johnston of KVUE, and Barbara McCarley and Ed Clements of KLBJ.

The Beretta USA No Worries Classic is made possible by Beretta USA and the Alice Kleberg Reynolds Foundation.
