Sara Shaw outdueled Pflugerville slugger Haley Outon to power the Chaps to a taut three-game sweep Friday in Pflugerville.

Shaw had 20 kills on 35 swings as Westlake outlasted the Panthers 25-23, 25-22, 25-22. Outon had 19 kills for Pflugerville (18-15, 5-2) but didn’t receive much help from her teammates.

“And Sara did get that help,” Bennett said. “That was the difference in the match.”

Paige Caridi and Ella Praisner each had six kills, and Kenzie Hume tallied five kills and five blocks. Hannah Hood added three kills for the Chaps.

Setters Avery Edwards (20 assists) and Amanda Welsh (21 assists) directed a Westlake offense that fired 45 kills on 92 swings with just 14 hitting errors.

The Chaps begin the second round of District 25-5A play tonight at Austin High. Both teams will wear pink to show support for breast cancer research.
