For the second time in four months, a Pablo Picasso print was stolen from a second West Lake Hills home in broad daylight, police say.

Picasso’s drawing of the “Blue Dove” and a watercolor by famed artist Salvador Dali, “Doctor, Doctor,” were taken from a home on Red Bud Trail around noon on Sept. 11, according to a police report.

“They had kicked in the back glass door window and ransacked most of the house,” said one of the responding officers, Donny Torres.

The brazen thieves also made off with 13 firearms, three laptops, two digital cameras, two iPods, an external hard drive, a camcorder, several pieces of jewelry and a $14,000 set of silver flatware, according to the police report.

Police say they do not know if the incident is related to another theft June 23 in which 12 paintings, including eight Picassos, were stolen from the West Lake Hills home of former art gallery owner Ruth Borenstein.

“It had to be someone who knew me, knew my house and possibly knew my habits,” she told the Statesman in July.

West Lake Hills police say that was also likely the case with the most recent theft because of the high volume of items that were taken in a short amount of time.

“Someone not familiar with art wouldn’t have known what they were,” Torres said. “It was somebody who knew what they were after, somebody who knew what those paintings were.”

I wonder if these homes has security alarms.

Speakng from experience, it takes about 10-20 min before
cops show up. Still a good amont of time for a thief.

I doubt the “Doctor” piece was an original Watercolor. Most likely a hand signed print. The image used in this story has a “facsimilie” signature and is not a representation of the original graphic with a pencil signature. If anyone wants to see that, I can post an image of it on my Dali website. http://www.salvadordaliexperts.com

If they took a facsimile signed piece, it is not of high value.
