Westlake may not have much tolerance for the flu bug that has swept across its campus, but the Chaps showed enough grit to grind out a fourth-place finish at Saturday’s RunTex Invitational boys cross country meet at Walter E. Long Lake.
Matt Ballou led the short-handed team with a ninth-place time of 18:01 minutes on the 3-mile course, and Nick Maass finished 20th in 18:27. Andrew Stockton (24th, 18:40), Michael Schumaker (28th, 18:50) and Nick Domino (38th, 19:09) completed Westlake’s team score.
“We were missing a lot of guts this week, but we held our own,” said Westlake coach Bert Bonnecarrere, whose program competed without 13 runners in the varsity, junior varsity and freshmen races.
As a team, Westlake finished with 119 points. Cedar Park won the meet with 60 points.
