The Chaps turned a showdown for first place into a rout Friday, sweeping past visiting Bowie 25-14, 25-19, 25-7 while firmly establishing themselves as the District 25-5A favorite.

Outside hitter Sara Shaw dominated at the net with 17 kills on 29 swings, but Westlake’s service game provided the biggest jolt to Bowie. The Chaps (26-4 overall, 5-0 in district) fired 11 aces with just three service errors while keeping Bowie (22-13, 4-1) off-balance or most of the match.

“I thought our serving and blocking was the difference,” Coach Al Bennett said. “This was a must-win at home, and we played as complete a match as we have this year.”

Tessa Hunt had five aces, and the Westlake libero dug 20 shots. Paige Caridi had four kills, and Ella Praisner added three kills and four blocks. Avery Edwards had a team-high 21 assists.
