A flurry of quick points helped Westlake (20-6, 1-0) opened District 25-5A play with a three-game sweep of old foe Austin High (15-15, 0-1) Friday at Westlake High School.
Sara Shaw had a match-high 11 kills in two games as the Chaps collected 33 kills with just 11 hitting errors. The all-state outside hitter also had 12 digs while showing increased mobility on an ankle sprained at the beginning of the year.
Hannah Hood and Katie Sorenson added four kills each for the Chaps, and Lauren Mitchell delivered four kills in the third game.
Junior setter Avery Edwards continued her strong play with a team-high 20 assists while splitting time with Amanda Welsh in Westlake’s 6-2 rotation. She also fired four of Westlake’s 11 aces.
The No. 9 Chaps travel to Bastrop tomorrow for a 7 p.m. game.
