No Chap receiver will lead the district in yards. No Chap will draw the honors that come with catches. No Chap will likley top 50 catches.

Miles Berger is part of a deep receiving corps.

Miles Berger is part of a deep receiving corps.

Don’t believe it? Ask Westlake coach Darren Allman.

“I don’t think that we’ll have one guy grabbing a whole lot of catches,” he said. “We have too many guys; it’s one of our deepest positions, and that’s a real positive for our passing game.”

Options abound for quarterback Tanner Price. Junior Collin Shaw, a gifted athlete who excels in track and baseball, will likely see the most snaps among the receiving corps and is the top deep threat for the team.

Senior Miles Berger offers stellar route running and good hands and will likely start alongside Shaw. Six-foot-two-inch senior Tim Dunn is a physical presence who is “more of a possession-type guy,” said Allman, and junior Jason Prideaux has the best speed among the receivers.

Tyler Luxion, Jeremy Digiovanni, Campbell McCrea will all factor into the deep rotation at receiver. Zach Alkusari and Cody Rademacher provide depth.

“It’s a luxury to have depth anywhere, but it’s especially nice at receiver,” Allman said. “We’ll have fresh legs in the game at all times.”

Such depth should make up for a lack of experience. Dunn (two catches) and Shaw (one) are the only wideouts with varsity experience.

Charlie Copa, the 245-pound senior starter at tight end, excels as a blocker. Daniel Sharplin backs hims up.
