It’s no puzzle when it comes to the expectation at Westlake.
Take a moment and flip to page 8 in this 2009 Westlake football preview and glance at the past 20 years. The Chaps have reached the playoffs every year in that span and have failed to advance past the first round just five times. They’ve won a state championship and played in five other state title games. They’ve reached the regional championship nine times and have gone undefeated in district play 14 times.
In other words, the Chaps have won plenty, and that expectation doesn’t change with the arrival of new head football coach Darren Allman and his staff.
Things look a lot different on the field for Westlake. For the first time in a generation, the Chaps won’t run a version of the offense installed by Ron Schroeder back in the 1980s. The matchup defense varies dramatically from the past.
Expectations remain the same, however, and Allman and his assistants wouldn’t have it any other way. Westlake’s record of success – on and off the gridiron – lured Allman away from his alma mater of Odessa Permian.
And Allman expects to add to that legacy, beginning with this season

Best wishes for the new program, staff and players, Go Chaps!
