A special meeting of the Eanes school board will be held at 7:30 a.m. Monday in the Board Room of the S. Don Rogers Administration Building, 601 Camp Craft Road.
The school board will meet in closed session to discuss and evaluate issues surrounding the appointment of a new board member to replace resigning member Gail King.
An action item following the closed session allows for the possible appointment of a replacement among nine applicants for the position.

It’s too bad the board chose to meet in closed session to discuss and evaluate issues regarding the appointment of a new board member. The open meetings laws don’t require closed session deliberations and the community has expressed a clear interest in being involved in the decision making process. The board missed an opportunity to provide transparency for school governance choices.
This is a terribly inconvenient time for voters to observe this important process.
I think that’s the point. The board wants to work behind closed doors and hopefully out of the public eye. People will be traveling to work on Monday morning at 7:30 a.m. — as this board and superintendent are well aware.
What happened at the Monday morning Board meeting? Did anyone go?
