Cooper Reid Wilson, 2, lost his long battle with GM1 Gangliosidosis, a fatal genetic disease, on July 8, just 11 days after his birthday.

Cooper was the son of Westlake Fire Department district chief David Wilson and wife Michelle Wilson. A celebration of his life was held at Tarrytown United Methodist Church in Austin yesterday.

Tim and Nicole Benton, friends with David and Michelle Wilson since their days at Westlake High School, organized a concert on May 10 at the Nutty Brown Café to benefit Cooper and other terminally ill children of police officers, firefighters and emergency medical workers. The four friends joined together to create Coopers Quest as a legacy for Cooper and a way to help other families struggling with their children’s medical costs.

Cooper leaves behind his parents, grandparents, Darlene Wilson, Danny and Diane Wilson, Nancy Perkins and Philip Perkins; his uncles, Derek and Dustin Wilson and Scott Perkins; and his godparents, Tim and Nicole Benton.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Cooper’s Quest at coopersquest.org.
