Although firefighters in Travis County battled brush and grass fires in other parts of the county, local fire officials reported no fires during the July Fourth holiday.
Mike Elliott, assistant chief for the Westlake Fire Department, said he knew of no fires during the holiday weekend.
CE-Bar Volunteer Fire Department Lt. Chad Dube said there were no fires in the department’s area also.
The Travis County Fire Marshal’s Office reported 39 tree, brush or trash fires during the holiday weekend.
Dube said these fires were mostly in the eastern portion of Travis County, which contains more dry grass and open prairie land.
These conditions are more conducive to brush fires, he said.
Dube said he believes residents in the CE-Bar area used fireworks safely during their July 4th celebrations.
“I think people around here were pretty extra careful,” he said.
