Four members of Westlake’s 2009 girls lacrosse team have earned spots on the U.S. Lacrosse 2008-09 academic all-American team.
Defender Caroline Bennighof, goaltender Adrienne Cooksley, center Rachel English and midfielder Sarah O’Neill received recognition. All four players were also named to the Central Texas 2008-09 all-district team
To receive such recognition, a player must be starter or significant contributor (must play over half a game); the player cannot accumulate total penalty points greater than or equal to 25 percent of the total number of games played; the player must have made significant contributions to the school and/or community beyond just their participation on school athletic teams; and the player must carry a minimum course load of 50 percent college preparatory courses of honor or advanced placement level and must have a weighted 3.6 GPA or greater out of a 4.0 academic scale in those cumulative courses since the player’s freshman year.
U.S. Lacrosse, based in Baltimore, is the national governing body for both men’s and women’s lacrosse.
