A number of changes to parking around the Rollingwood Municipal Park are aimed at preventing drivers from parking in front of residents’ homes.
The Rollingwood City Council made parking along the 3200 block of Pickwick Lane permit-only and removed the time limits for parking spaces near City Hall.
The Council also decided to paint the curbs in front of mailboxes along Gentry Drive to prevent drivers from parking in front of them.
Dr. Robert Patterson, a resident on the 3200 block of Pickwick Lane, said education is not sufficient to keep people from parking in front of residents’ homes when going to the park.
“Without regulation people will, in the end, park in the most convenient place,” Patterson said.
Patterson requested permit-only parking, and said although it is a burden for homeowners, permits are preferable to the current situation.
Joyce Howell, another resident on the 3200 block of Pickwick Lane, said she talked with her neighbors, and they agree with Patterson.
“We agree that permit parking is the way to go on our street,” she said.
Rhoda Silverberg, a resident on Gentry Drive, said drivers frequently block her mailbox on Saturdays.
The Council decided to paint the curbs in front of the mailboxes on Gentry to make those areas permit-only as well.
