Crews are about 75 percent finished with the west side of the intersection improvements at Loop 360 and Bee Cave Road.
Don Nyland, area engineer for the Texas Department of Transportation, said construction will begin on a center median on the west side in the upcoming weeks.
“You’ll see people working in the middle of the road,” he said.
Workers and construction equipment will be moving across Bee Cave Road, so traffic will most likely increase.
“People need to be more attentive,” Nyland said.
Crews will also modify the traffic lights at the Palisades West business park and at Castle Ridge Road.
Once construction is finished in the west, the majority of the work will be under the Loop 360 bridge and to the east of the highway.
As construction continues, Nyland said drivers need to slow down and pay greater attention to their surroundings because crews are modifying the roadways, signage and traffic flow.
Traffic coming from the Loop 360 off ramp headed east no longer has a dedicated merge lane.
Crews replaced the yield signs for vehicles exiting the Village at Westlake with stop signs.
So far crews have not encountered any significant setbacks, although they have found unexpected water lines and other utilities.
“So we’re working around those,” he said.
Nyland said he expects the project to be finished in about 10 months.
When the improvements are complete, there will be an additional lane on both sides of Bee Cave Road stretching from Redbud Trail to The County Line Bar-B-Q restaurant.
The intersection improvements are estimated to cost approximately $3,578,000.
