A day after canceling regional track meets across the state in response to the swine flu, the UIL has reversed its decision.
The Class 5A Region IV track meet will now take place May 15-16 at San Antonio’s Alamo Stadium, the UIL announced Thursday. The state meet is now scheduled for June 5-6 at Myers Stadium on the University of Texas campus.
On Wednesday, UIL officials announced plans to cancel regional meets and award state spots to the top four qualifiers in each event from each region based on district meet results. The announcement triggered a wave of protests from coaches and athletes, who expressed a myriad of concerns about the fairness of the decision.
Thirteen Westlake athletes will compete in 15 events at the regional meet, where the top three finishers in each event will advance to state. With their district results, the qualifiers include:

• 200 dash: Louie Swope rallied for bronze at district meet.
• 400 run: Soph Van Gramann nabbed surprising silver.
