At least things won’t get any more difficult for Westlake in District 25-5A play.

The Chaps, 3-4 overall, opened their district schedule Tuesday at Butler Field with a 5-0 loss to defending district champion Bowie, the top-ranked Class 5A team in the state. University of Texas-bound Blair Luna struck out 18 Westlake hitters as Bowie improved to 13-1 for the season.

Westlake had two hits in the game, including an infield single by freshman Elena Reynolds and a drive up the middle by sophomore Maisie Gwynne.

Hannah Slovacek went the distance in the circle for Westlake while striking out seven Bowie hitters and giving up seven hits.
