Bowie managed to do what few teams have this season by slowing down Westlake’s full-throttle attack. In the process, they proved that the District 25-5A race wouldn’t become a two-team sprint.

Anchored by their trademark 2-3 matchup zone, the Bulldogs held Westlake to a season-low in points during a 57-41 victory Tuesday at Bowie High School. The resounding win upped the Bulldogs’ record to 19-5 overall and 5-1 in district play. Westlake (19-4 overall) suffered its first district loss and enters Friday’s home game against first-place Pflugerville hoping to stay in contention for the district title. Pflugerville (24-4), which handed Bowie its lone conference loss, has not lost a district game and would take a two-game lead on the Chaps with a win.

Cody Doolin scored 21 points for the Chaps, who came into the game averaging 70.1 points per contest. However, the rest of the Westlake players combined to make just a trio of three-pointers against Bowie’s zone.

Connor Kemper scored 11 for the Chaps. Trey Lindsay made five three-pointers while scoring a team-high 15 points for Bowie. Teammate Isiah Collier added 12 points.
