Westlake didn’t face many challenges at the Pride of Texas Tournament at Tulosa-Midway High School in Corpus Christi last weekend, but the team responded when it meant the most.

Facing their only halftime deficit in the tournament, the Chaps rallied for a 71-62 win over Harlingen South in Saturday’s title match. Duever scored a game-high 24 points and Durbin added 18 points in the winning effort. Defense keyed the win, however. Westlake trailed 40-27 at halftime but held the Hawks to 22 second-half points.

Mays and Ivana Gomez scored 15 and 14 points, respectively, as the Chaps opened the tournament with a 62-40 win over Gregory-Portland Friday. After a 71-18 win over Roma, Duever poured in 16 points during a 64-43 win over Corpus Christi Flour Bluff later in the day.

Duever and Durbin each had 13 points in a 54-44 semifinal win over Corpus Christi King. Kayla Ball scored 11 points, and Hannah Coley added 10 points.
