With due respect to last-place Akins, a share of the District 25-5A title will be on the line for Westlake when the Chaps face Austin High.
The fallout from Bowie’s dramatic 30-29 win over Pflugerville Thursday night includes a possible three-way tie for the district crown between Westlake, Bowie and Pflugerville. If the Chaps defeat Austin High tonight at House Park, they would join Bowie and Pflugerville atop the district standings with a 5-1 conference mark.
Westlake closes the season against Akins Nov. 7. Pflugerville and Bowie end their seasons with Connally and Bastrop, respectively.
If the Chaps claim a piece of that championship, it would be the first district title for the program since 2005. First-place teams share district titles in high school. Tiebreakers are only used to determine playoff seeding, thus all three first-place teams would earn a share of the District 25-5A title.
Westlake and Bowie will represent the district in the Division I bracket, while Pflugerville has locked up a Division II spot.
Because of their win over Bowie in the district opener, the Chaps will secure the top Division I seed with wins over Austin High and Akins.
The top Division I seed in 25-5A will likely face District 26-5A’s San Antonio Madison in the first round. Madison defeated San Antonio Roosevelt, the other likely DI seed from 26-5A, 36-21 last night to force a toe for first place in that district race.
