Travis County law enforcement officials evacuated a business park on Bee Cave Road and temporarily closed Old Walsh Tarlton Lane after a man pulled out a gun and threatened to kill himself in the office building Oct. 9.

Alex Nixon, 48, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound suffered at the Centre One office building, 3103 Bee Cave Road, in his therapist’s office.

The Rollingwood Police Department was first notified around 4 p.m. when a therapist in the building called and reported a patient threatening suicide.

“At that point, it had just been verbal threats,” Rollingwood Police Chief Dayne Pryor said.

When Rollingwood officers arrived, the therapist was running from the building, telling officers Nixon had a gun, Pryor said.

When officers went to the office, Nixon was sitting on a couch holding a pistol to his chest.

Rollingwood officers called the Travis County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team and Crisis Intervention Team and maintained face-to-face communication with Nixon, who said he wanted to talk to the therapist.

When Travis County officers arrived, they evacuated the office building and blocked the entrances to the parking lot with their vehicles.

Roger Wade, spokesman for the Travis County Sheriff’s Office, said officers talked with the man for about three hours.

Pryor said Travis County Sheriff’s Office records indicate the man was acting erratic, alternating between very angry and very calm.

Officers heard a gunshot at 7:30 p.m. and found Nixon wounded     inside the office, Wade said.

Nixon was taken to the University Medical Center at Brackenridge, where he was pronounced dead at 7:58 p.m.

Pryor said Nixon left an envelope containing a note and estate paperwork with a prior girlfriend, who was unaware of his intentions before he went to the office building.
