An recent accidental fire from a barbecue grill on a wooden deck left a Westbank house severely damaged.

The fire began on the deck around 8:24 a.m. then spread to the side and the attic of the house at 808 Crystal Creek Drive, said Chief Buddy Crain of the Ce-Bar Volunteer Fire Department.

“It pretty much burned the roof off,” Crain said.

Approximately 20 firefighters from the Oak Hill, Westlake, Austin and Lake Travis fire departments assisted Ce-Bar to extinguish the blaze, which was difficult to combat because the house was at the end of a narrow driveway.

“We had difficulty accessing the house,” Crain said.

One of the residents was treated for smoke inhalation, Crain said.
